Words Without Stories Feedback
One of the things about creating a book with a purpose is that you really, really want to know whether it’s fulfilling that purpose. I ‘thought’ other people might have a similar need to me - there aren’t a lot of options for books for people living with advanced dementia, after all. I had struggled to find what I wanted, but, people with dementia are unique, so whose to say that what might be useful for us, with my mum, would really be what anyone else was looking for?
For the most part, you’re relying on people being able to leave you reviews. And on Amazon, they can do just that. I am over the moon to have six 5 star reviews in the couple of months since Words Without Stories came out. (Also, I have absolutely nothing to compare it with, so six sounds like a lot to me!).
One of the lovely things about having a Facebook page as well, is that people can also message me directly. I’ve been honoured to receive, not only messages from people, talking about how their loved enjoyed the book, but also sharing photos with me, of their relatives with the book.
Obviously, I will not be sharing their photos here. But I am incredibly grateful that they have felt they could share these precious images.
I share photos of my mum, from her care home, on a regular basis, because people with dementia are massively under represented almost everywhere, and almost invisible within society. I think it’s really important that we see them. (Of course, there are issues with using the image of someone who cannot give their permission for it to be used, so I am always in consultation with my sister and stepdad about it, and very careful over what i share.)
Knowing that the book I created is actually proving genuinely useful to people is everything, and gives me confidence to carry on and create the next one. Meanhwile, if you have a copy, and would like to share a photo, you can do so to the Facebook page here.
